Bright lights in Wernigerode

The Christmas market in Wernigerode is one of the most popular in the Harz region. This year, it will be delighting guests with its romantic atmosphere from November 24 to December 22. Against the backdrop of the historic town hall and the many brightly colored half-timbered houses, more than 50 traders and food stall proprietors will invite visitors to take a stroll through the town. This picturesque medieval town in the Harz region is the ideal destination during Advent with its traditional crafts, delicious food and live music. See more

Advent in Quedlinburg’s courtyards

The Quedlinburg Christmas market (November 29 to December 22) has twice been recognized as the most beautiful in Saxony-Anhalt and the UNESCO World Heritage town has an exciting program of events during the run-up to Christmas. Every day, the Quedlinburg Advent calendar opens the door of the one of the historic half-timbered houses around the Castle Hill. The “Advent in the Courtyards” event is the only one of its kind in Germany. Over the weekends in Advent, around 20 houses in the historic heart of the town open up their otherwise private courtyards. See more

Illuminations in the region’s capital

The Festival of Light in Magdeburg creates a fascinating world of glittering lights and radiant colors. The artistic installations bathe the streets and squares of the city in a magical light. The Festival of Light begins on November 27, 2023, and continues until January 14, 2024. Entrance is free. See more

Advent in Wörlitz Park

Every year on the first weekend in Advent, the little town of Wörlitz invites guests to take a stroll through the beautiful park and to visit the many craft and food stalls where they can buy Christmas gifts and enjoy the local delicacies and drinks on offer. Wörlitz Park, which is part of the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz UNESCO World Heritage site, forms a unique backdrop for this event. See more

Advent in the vineyards

The romantic and mysterious vineyards in Naumburg and Roßback create a fairytale backdrop for a special Christmas experience every year on the fourth weekend in Advent (December 16 and 17, 2023). As well as wines from the region and home-made mulled wine, visitors can buy locally made craft items. Local dishes and sweet treats can also be enjoyed, together with small exhibitions and musical performances. See more

The Sternenmarkt in Haldensleben

The Christmas market In Haldensleben, known as the Sternenmarkt or star market, is open from December 2 to 17, together with an ice rink. Every day at 5.00 pm, Santa Claus opens one of the doors on the outsize Advent calendar. The center of the town is illuminated with sparkling stars in a beautifully designed winter landscape. Winter magic in Halle (Saale)

The Christmas and winter markets in the Marktplatz, Hallmarkt and Domplatz in Halle (Saale) are open to visitors from November 28. Every weekend in Advent, there is a campfire with mulled wine and a guided torchlit procession at the Romanesque castle of Giebichenstein. This takes place from 5.00 pm onwards. See more

After a guided tour of the Hausmannstürme in Halle (Saale), which are two of four towers of the Market Church, visitors can enjoy a glass of mulled wine in Halle’s highest winter lounge with a unique view of the lights of the Christmas market and the roofs of the city. See more
